Robert Bruce McCallum, 72, died Monday, August 29, 2011 at Westminster Thurber Community in Columbus, Ohio. Bob was born September 9, 1938 in Alliance, Ohio to Robert Jesse and Beulah (Zellers) McCallum. He graduated from Mount Union College in 1960, where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity, and received his MBA in marketing from Capital University in 1983. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years with a tour of duty in the Far East on board the destroyer USS Frank Knox. He was appointed to a course at the U.S. Naval College. Despite a car accident at the age of 40 that resulted in paraplegia, he maintained an extremely active lifestyle. Bob is survived by his brother, Thomas McCallum, M.D. and his wife Nicky McCallum of Riverton Wyo.; their son J. Reid McCallum of Gunnison, Col.; his sister, Joy McCallum of Pasadena, Calif. and her daughters, Kathryn Yadley of Pasadena, Calif., and Gwynne Yadley and husband, Gabriel Vandervort and their son, Nicolas A. Vandervort of Montrose, Calif. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 16, 2011 at Westminster-Thurber Community, 717 Neil Ave., Columbus with Chaplain Marc Arni officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. An additional visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, 75 S. Union Ave., Alliance, Ohio 44601. A graveside service with military honors will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Mount Union Cemetery in Alliance with the Rev. Pam Bruno officiating.
