A. Dale Hartenstein age 88, of Alliance, passed away at 8:35 a.m. Monday, May 23, 2011, at Alliance Community Hospital.
He was born April 14, 1923, in Alliance, to Arthur E. and Kathryn (Battershell) Hartenstein and was a lifelong Alliance resident.
Dale was a 1942 graduate of Alliance High School. He received machinist training at Alliance Machine Company where he was employed for 43 years until his retirement in 1983.
He was a member of the Chapel in Marlboro, Jolly Pilgrims and the Friendship Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his wife, Eileen J. (Aebi) Hartenstein of Alliance, whom he married November 26, 1943; children, Nancy (Jack) Raker of Marion, NC, Marilyn (Robert) Andrie of Homeworth, Susan (Michael) Decker of Alliance, Joyce (Joby) Wetzel of Irmo, SC, Thomas (Maureen) Hartenstein of St. Paul, Or., and James (Stephanie) Hartenstein of Alliance; 13 grandchildren, Todd, Ryan and Seth Andrie, Sarah (Dan) Cappel and Benjamin (Shanna) Decker, Kathryn and Joby Wetzel, Andrew, Michael, Samuel and Carly Hartenstein, Leigh Ann (Gary) Moore and Jared (Frankee) Hartenstein; and four great-grandchildren, Jameson, Caden, Taryn and Wesley.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 27, 2011, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Joel Cochran officiating. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at Marlboro Cemetery.
