Adolph F. "Spindle" Glatz, age 92, of Sebring, passed away May 7, 2015, at Crandall Medical Center.
He was born August 5, 1922, in Alliance, Ohio, the son of Adolph and Anna B. (Unger) Glatz.
He attended Alliance High School and when war broke out at Pearl Harbor he joined the 75th Seabees and was stationed in the Phillipines building roads, runways and housing for B-29 crews.
According to Seabees enlistment poster, "Here is a real opportunity for two-fisted, red-blooded Americans to serve shoulder-to-shoulder with the combatant forces in the SEABEES, the newest arm of Uncle Sam's Navy." "We build, we fight"
Spindle married Donna Jean Miller who preceded him in death in 1994.
He lived his entire life in Alliance, Ohio, where he worked at Morgan Engineering for more than 40 years as a machinist and tool specialist.
Adolph Glatz is listed on Morgan Engineering's World War II Roll of Honor.
He was active in VFW work, was an avid golfer playing regularly at Sleepy Hollow Country Club. He continued to work on specialized measurement and calibration devices long after his retirement.
He is survived by his step-daughter, Sallyann Wagoner of Atlanta Georgia.
There will be no funeral or burial services, but family asks that you take a minute and remember all of those who suffered and served in World War II and are now rapidly passing on.
