Alan Abegglen

Alan W. Abegglen, age 87, husband of the late Catherine Vance Abegglen, formerly of Alliance and Aurora, died at the Hospice Care Center in Lexington, Kentucky.
He was the son of Alfred and Irene Whitla Abegglen.
A graduate of Alliance High School and Mount Union College, Mr. Abegglen was president of Student Council, member of Sigma Nu Fraternity, elected member of Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities and kept close ties with Mount Union College.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945 as a Captain, being stationed in Sicily, Italy. In 1945, Alan joined Babcock and Wilcox Company in the sales department, retiring as Regional Sales Manager in 1984.
He was an active member of the Garfield Memorial Methodist Church, served as chairman of the board and numerous other committees, and received the Garfield Memorial Award for service. He served two terms as a councilman of the city of Pepper Pike.; and was active with the Alumni Council of Mount Union College, serving as vice-president and president, and received the Mt. Union College Alumni Service Award. He also served on the board of Acacia Country Club and was a Kentucky Colonel.
He is survived by one daughter Diane A. (Craig) Martin-Ivory of Lexington, KY, one son Alan W. (Dolly) Abegglen Jr. of Cleveland, three grandchildren; Alan W. (Amanda) Abegglen III, Andrew W. Abegglen, and Jennifer Martin (Tom) Brooks; one great-grandson, Jacob Thomas Brooks, and a very special friend, Joyce Abegglen of Cleveland, Ohio.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 13th at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Dr. James Doty officiating. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will follow at Alliance City Cemetery.
