Alberta Hawkins departed her earthly life Friday morning, February 3, 2107 at Manor Care of Canton, after a sudden illness.
Bert was born to the late Ernest and Berothia (Nicholson) Kirksey on October 16, 1928, in Alliance.
She attended Sebring McKinley High School and during the war, was employed at the Ravenna Arsenal. As an excellent cook, she was employed by Hippity Hop and Polinori's. Her factory careers included Jim Clay, finally retiring from American Steel Foundries as a belt/mill operator in 1989.
For years she was a faithful member of Noble St. COGIC. In 1959, along with her parents, she moved her membership to Holy Temple Church of God In Christ where her membership was enrolled until her untimely death. She loved singing in the choir, leading her solo.
Courting the love of her life, Marzett Hawkins, Sr., who affectionately called Alberta 'Judy', they were wed, August 8, 1953.
Bert took pride in homemaking, family, cooking and her 'hostess with the mostess' entertaining family gatherings. She was a member of Riverside PTA and church based Flamingo and Go-Getters clubs.
Her union to Marzett blessed them with four children. Kathy (Edwin) Brown of Spring, Texas, Amy Kelly of Canton, Ariane Hawkins of Alliance and Marzett (Patricia) Hawkins, Jr. of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother, Joseph Kirksey; three sisters, Effie Kirksey, Kathryn Paul and Exlea King; and special cousin, Sam Kirksey.
