Alberta M. Cunningham

Alberta Mae Cunningham, age 95 of Alliance, died at 10:15 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21, 2005 at Alliance Community Hospital of natural causes.
She was born Dec. 10, 1909 in Leesburgh Station, Pennsylvania. She was the youngest daughter of Charles and Julia (Lewis) Callahan. Alberta attended Lowellville public schools and graduated from Niles McKinley High School. While playing violin in the Lowellville School orchestra, she met her future husband, Arthur M. Cunningham, whom she married on May 27, 1933. Together they moved to Alliance where her husband founded a family furniture store in 1939. Alberta was preceded in death by her husband, Murray, who passed away in 1965, and two sisters, Helen (James) Cunningham, and Margaret (Roderick) Campbell.
After her husband's death, Alberta joined son Murray in the family furniture business, Cunningham's Country Furniture, where she served as vice-president and worked as a salesperson until the age of 94. She previously was a member of Rural Harmony and Postscript Clubs as well as being a long time member of the Alliance Quota Club. She was one of the charter members of the Alliance Community Concert Association and was an accomplished violinist. At one time, she served on the Board of Directors of the YWCA. She was a member of the Alliance Salem United Methodist Church of Salem Church Road. Her hobbies included gardening, painting, fishing trips with her husband and family, traveling and keeping her back yard birds well fed.
Alberta is survived by her son, Murray (Barbara) Cunningham, and her daughter Judy (Harold) Frank. She was a beloved grandmother to Beth Cunningham of Alliance, James (Lois) Cunningham of Parrish, Fla., Jill (Tim) Swinger of Richmond, Va., Mark (Julie) Frank and Joanne (Steve) Fedder both of Akron. She was also great-grandmother to Ryan (Jayme) Cunningham, Joshua Cunningham, Morgan and Riley Frank, Clarissa and Lauren Fedder and Clay Swinger. She was great-great-grandmother to Arianna Cunningham. She also leaves behind her faithful Boston Terrier, Mike.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Miller officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Pineview Memorial Cemetery in Warren, Ohio.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Alliance Salem United Methodist Church, the Alliance Salvation Army, or the Alliance Community Concert Association.
