Alexander Nash, age 88, of Sebring, formerly of Alliance, died at 12:45 a.m. Friday, April 23, 2010 at Crandall Medical Center
He was born June 14, 1921, in Canton, Ohio, to George J. and Mary Rose (Davis) Navrozidis.
Mr. Nash was a 1944 graduate of Canton McKinley High School, 1947 graduate of Mount Union College earning a Public School Music Degree and a 1956 graduate of Kent State University earning his Music Education Degree.
A United States Navy Air Force Veteran, he served in World War II as a Seaman First Class in the Atlantic Theater in Sicily, Italy, receiving two Bronze Stars.
Mr. Nash was a member of the Mountain of the Lord Foursquare Gospel Church, member of the DAV, the American Federation of Musicians and life member of both the Ohio Education Association and the National Education Association. He performed in the Louis Naumoff Band for 25 years, the Alliance City Band, and loved performing music at rest homes and playing in the church orchestra. He was an Instrumental Music Instructor for 35 years for the Alliance School system till his retiring in 1979.
Survivors include his children, Susan (Andrew) Grove of Alliance, Sharon (David) McCrea of Canton, and Mary (Kevin) Strong of Cincinnati; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Peggy Despinia (Papas) Navrozidis; wife, Vesta; and three brothers, John and James Nash and Harry Papas.
The family would like to thank the staff on the 2nd floor at Crandall Medical Center for their kindness and compassionate care.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Phil Shepherd officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday prior to the service. Interment will be at Sunset Hills Burial Park in Canton.
