Alfred R. Weider, age 88, of California, formerly of Alliance, passed away at 12:12 p.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at Folsom Convalescent Center.
He was born February 9, 1925, in Gibsonburg, Ohio, to Charles Nelson and Susannah (Myers) Weider.
Alfred was employed by the Ohio Edison Company for 43 years as a lineman, then as a field engineer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his granddaughter, Nikki Rhodes; wife, Kathryn E. Weider, whom he married Dec. 28, 1946 and who died June 19, 2008; one brother; and five sisters.
Alfred was active in various church ministries and involved with ministering to nursing homes with his wife, Kathryn. Also active with The Boy Scouts of America, he served as Assistant Scout Master for many years.
Survivors include his five children; Linda (Dr. Charles) Rhodes of Phoenix, Az., Larry (Janet) Weider of Brecksville, Oh., Laurie Reynolds of St. Peters, Mo., Lee (Teresa) Weider of Folsom, Ca., and Dr. Lew (Cheryl) Weider of Lynchburg, Va.; thirteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and one sister, Darline Prowant.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at Beechwood United Methodist Church with Pastor Bob Miller officiating. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday December 3, 2013, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
