Alice M. Smida, age 78, of Alliance, died at 7:55 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center.
She was born June 29, 1934, in Ashtabula, Ohio, to Andrew and Agnes (Barry) Madden.
Alice was a member of the Regina Coeli Catholic Church. She was a 1956 graduate of Kent State University earning a bachelor degree in elementary education, and retired from Alliance School District in 1995 after more than 40 years of teaching 1st grade in five states, while relocating with her husband Ed.
She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Alice was an avid traveler, visiting all 50 states and several countries abroad.
Survivors include her husband, Edward T. Smida, whom she shared 53 years of marriage; three children, Ed (Hilary) Smida of Denver, Colorado, Mike (Jamie) Smida of Stafford Springs, Connecticut and Mary (Lowell) Tunstall, of South Riding, Virginia; and five grandchildren, Andy, Lindsey, Lauren, Hilary and Jack.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Barry Madden, Andy Madden and Monica Madden.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at Regina Coeli Catholic Church with Fr. Patrick Manning officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Interment will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Ashtabula, Ohio.
