Alvis Ray Faverty, age 93, of Alliance, died at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, October 16, 2011 at McCrea Manor.
He was born October 10, 1918 in Kellogg, W.Va. to Alvin and Hazel (Jeffereys) Faverty.
Ray was a 1938 graduate of Louisville High School and worked as a clerk for 40 years with Transue Williams, retiring in 1982. Ray was a member of the Beechwood Methodist Church for over 50 years and a Boy Scout Master for 46 years with Troop 56 of Beechwood.
As a Sergeant, Ray served with the U.S. Army Amphibious Engineers in the South Pacific during WWII.
He is survived by his daughter, Minda Lou (Ron) Dillon of North Benton; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Martha Faverty; one son, Alvis Ray Faverty, Jr. who died in August 1968 in Viet Nam; and his brother, Delmer Faverty.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at the Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Dr. David Bloor officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Beechwood Cemetery.
