Andreas "Andy" Davidz, 77, a physicist and carbon arc operator, passed away on the afternoon of Thursday, December 3, 2015, at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center in Florida surrounded by his loving family.
Andy, a long-time resident of Homeworth, Ohio, was born June 24, 1938, on the island of Kisar in Indonesia. He survived the occupation of the country by the Japanese during World War II and the subsequent Indonesian National Revolution to receive his education on neighboring islands. He went on to attend one of Indonesia's most prestigious universities, Bandung Institute of Technology, receiving his B.A. in Engineering Physics in 1962.
He then moved to the United States, where he was honored by Robert Kennedy before pursuing his Masters in Physics at Kent State University. He received his degree in 1965. During the program, he met his wife of 47 years, Kathleen "Kathy" Romigh of Homeworth. They were married April 6, 1968.
Andy went on to receive his Ph.D. in Chemical Physics in 1976 from Kent State. His dissertation was entitled "Different Perturbed Uncoupled Hartree-Fock Methods for Physical Properties of Atomic Systems".
He worked at American Steel Foundries for 28 years and enjoyed martial arts, chess, gardening, fishing and playing with his grandchildren. He attended Reading Church of the Brethren in Homeworth.
Andy is survived by his wife Kathy; his son, Andreas "A.J." (Roshan) Davidz of Georgetown, Kentucky; his daughters, Heidi Davidz (Scott Crego) of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; Elizabeth "Beth" Davidz of Brooklyn, New York and Desy Andriastuti (Wiku Nugroho) of Cilacap, Indonesia; his grandchildren, Brinley Davidz, Alexander Crego, Kade Crego, Sarah Nugroho, Bimo Nugroho, Fe Nugroho and Bram Nugroho; his faithful dog, Liberty; and many more family members both in the United States and Indonesia.
He was preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Margaritha; his sister Martha and brothers Paulus and Willem Davidz.
Calling hours will be held 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 10, 2015, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 11, 2015, at Reading Church of the Brethren, 25418 Georgetown Rd., Homeworth, Ohio 44634. Services will also be held at the same time in Indonesia on his home island of Kisar, as well as by family in Kupang, West Timor.
Burial will be at Highland Memorial Park, 264 S 12th St, Beloit, Ohio 44609.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Reading Church of the Brethren to be used for children's charities.
