Ann V. Barkdoll, age 79 of Alliance, Ohio, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on December 4, 2004. Born in Cleveland to the late Stephen & Vera Kovalcik whom had emigrated from the Slovak Republic, she attended the Cleveland Institute of Art. An accomplished artist, Ann worked for American Greetings, where she delighted all with her design of greeting cards and wrapping paper. Later, as a freelance artist, she created coloring books for Saalfield Publishing and beautiful paper dolls for Resource Publishing. She moved to Alliance in 1956 upon her marriage to Richard Barkdoll. There she freelanced, but spent much of her time devoting herself to her husband and raising their daughter, Holly. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Maximo.
Preceded in death by her parents, as well as brother Edward Kovalcik and sister Dorothy Kovalcik. She is survived by husband Richard R. Barkdoll, daughter Holly Barkdoll and son-in-law Dennis O'Connell of Canton, and devoted cat, Templeton. She also leaves to cherish her memory sisters Mary (Vince) Bartos of Strongsville and Francis deGoicechea of North Royalton, as well as many nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, 75 S. Union Ave., Alliance on Wednesday 3-5pm and 7-9pm. Mass of the Christian Burial will be Thursday at 10:00am at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Maximo. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, or Magical Theatre Company Endowment Fund, or St. Joseph Church of Maximo.
