Anne J. Brown died on Tuesday June 14th at Community Care Center. She was born in Homestead, Pa., to Rose and Adam J. Wursthorn.
The family moved to Alliance in Anne's early childhood. She attended Alliance public schools and graduated from Alliance High School in 1935. In the fall of that year, she entered the Mount Union College and participated in various college activities. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority.
In her senior year, she married Gladstone L. Brown on January 31, 1939. They celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary this past January. She served faithfully as a ministers' wife in three states, including the Methodist Church of Madison, Oh., Mt. Gilead, Oh., Chagrin Falls, Oh., and Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. She was dearly loved by the women of the Churches. She supported them in all their activities, never seeking a leadership role. She supported her husband enthusiastically in all of his ministerial positions, including Superintendent of the Youngstown and Cleveland Districts. She especially enjoyed college life when Dr. Brown was appointed Dean of the Chapel and Executive Vice President of Albion College. She was a fervent supporter of their athletic teams.
She was preceded in death by brothers, John Wursthorn of Shaker Heights, Adam Wursthorn of Alliance; and sisters, Rose Forrest and Betty Schaffer of Alliance.
She is survived by her husband, daughter, Anne King Brown of Alliance; son, Dr. David L. Brown and his wife Theresa, of Okemos, Mi., grandson, Matthew Brown of Cincinnati, and granddaughter, Kristen Brown of Philadelphia. She is also survived by an older sister, Mary Curtis of California, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Anne was a delightful, caring person and lived life with strength, beauty and grace.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are by Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, 75 S. Union Ave., Alliance, Ohio 44601.
