Anthony C. "Tony" Russo, age 81, of Alliance, passed away at 3:14 a.m., Tuesday, August 6, 2013, at University Hospital in Cleveland.
He was born October 25, 1931, in Smith Township, Mahoning County, Ohio, to Samuel Francis and Elizabeth (Reda) Russo.
Tony attended St. Joseph Catholic School and was a 1950 graduate of Alliance High School. He was employed as a quality control inspector for the Genie Company in Alliance for 47 years until his retirement.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and the Christopher Columbus Society. He enjoyed playing golf and going bowling. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
A veteran of the United States Army, Tony served as a medic in Germany during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Daisy (Wade) Russo, of Alliance, whom he married, May 15, 1981; daughters, Joyce (Stan) Miller of Salem, Geri Mathes of Alliance and Rose (Todd) Fry of Norwalk; one son, Herb (Cookie) Wade of Carrollton; two granddaughters, Kim and Candi; five grandsons, Rich, Adam, Mark, Nicholas and Ryan; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Sam (Linda) Russo and Joe (Rea) Russo, both of Alliance; sister, Aggie Schubert of Alliance, sister-in-law, Norma Russo, of Alliance; daughter-in-law, Shirley Blagg of Canal Fulton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Ida Russo; son, Gary Blagg; great-grandson, Tyler Sivets; and a brother, Charles Russo.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, August 9, 2013, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Fr. Matthew Mankowski of St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
