Arthur A. Horning, age 88, of Alliance, died at 4:38 p.m. Saturday, October 29, 2011, at Alliance Community Hospital.
He was born February 10, 1923, in Salem, Ohio, to Arthur and Hilda (Bischoff) Horning.
A graduate of Salem High School, Arthur was employed as a fitter for B&W Bliss. He was a member of Regina Coeli Catholic Church where he enjoyed making quilts with his wife, which were then raffled at the church.
Arthur was a decorated veteran of the U. S. Army, having served in the European Theatre during WWII with the 481st Coast Artillery Corps.
Survivors include his wife Mary (Deagan) Horning, whom he married on October 20, 1943; Son Martin (Jan) Horning of Alliance; Grandson Matthew (Candice) Horning of Alliance; Granddaughter Katherine (Eric Sams) Horning of Los Angeles, Calif.; three great grandchildren, Rylee, Avery and Corie, all of Alliance; two brothers, Francis (Theresa) Horning and Paul (Peg) Horning; and one sister, Mary Whiteleather, all of Salem.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Patrick Michael Horning; two brothers and one sister.
A memorial mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday November 2, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Matthew Mankowski officiating.
