Arthur W. Simms Jr., age 81 of Alliance, died at Altercare of Alliance at 9:55 p.m. Tuesday March 16, 2004.
He was born February 16, 1923 in Sebring, Ohio to Arthur W. Simms Sr. and Mamie (Rouse) Simms Waugaman.
Mr. Simms attended Sebring Public Schools and was employed as a Furnace Foreman by American Steel Foundries. A World War II U. S. Army veteran, he was the recipient of the Purple Heart.
He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, an avid camper and reader, and enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include two sons, Arthur W. (Patricia) Simms III, of Sebring; and Ronald L. (Barbara) Simms of Sun Lakes, Arizona, six grandchildren; Patti, Peggi, Tina, Arthur, Kevin and Kerri, and six great-grandchildren; Tyler, Tritchen, Stephen, Lillian, and Olivia; and one sister, Phylis Simms of Alliance.
Mr. Simms was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lillian I. (Nestrick) Simms, whom he married in April, 1942, and who died December 9, 1996, one brother Walter, and one sister, Goldie Richards.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor James White officiating. Friends may call from Noon to 1 p.m. Saturday. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
