Barbara Jean Pierce

Barbara Jean Pierce, age 100, passed away on January 15, 2024.

She was born on January 3, 1924, in Alliance, to Fred L. Bates Sr. and Elsie (Garman) Bates.

Barbara graduated from Alliance High School in 1942. She was a former member of United Presbyterian Church in Alliance and a current member of Ascension Lutheran Church in North Olmsted, Ohio.

Barbara volunteered as a “Pink Lady” at Alliance Community Hospital and as a patient greeter at Rose Lane Health Center. She previously enjoyed golfing and bowling. In recent years, Barbara liked to play euchre and dominos with her friends. She was also an avid reader. More than anything, Barbara loved to spend time visiting her family and her friends at Rose Lane.

Those left to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Karen (Dr. James) Greenlee, Susan (Ronald) Lyons and Debra (Mindy) Pierce; five grandchildren, Kristin (Greg) Ulm, Allison (Kyle) Beckham, Rob Greenlee, Rosaland (Jason) Cook and Liz Greenlee Keck; eight great-grandchildren, Joshua (Mary), Jeremy, James, Michael, Pierce, Marcus, Mariah (Brit), and Lauren; four great-great-grandchildren, who lovingly referred to Barbara as “Triple G”, Hannah, Joseph, Bethany, and Abraham; her brother, Fred (Marjorie) Bates Jr.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John F. Pierce, whom she married May 3, 1945 and who passed on March 20, 2002.

A funeral service will be held at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home on Monday, January 22^nd at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation one hour prior. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
