Berdine Scott Lawther

Berdine E. Scott Lawther, age 93, formerly of Alliance, died at 5:40 a.m. March 29, 2008 at Crandall Medical Center. She was born February 20, 1915 in Alliance, Ohio to Job and Ona (Shoemaker) Scott and was a lifelong resident. Berdine graduated from Kent State University and Massillon Community School of Nursing. She taught for 15 years at North Nimishillen, 2 years at Pleasant View, then 23 years at Lexington Elementary. She also worked as a Registered Nurse for 1 year in Massillon, and 25 years part time as a RN at the former Alliance City Hospital and various nursing homes. A member of Beechwood United Methodist Church, she was also a member of the International Christian Endeavor, Ohio Retired Teachers Association, American Association of University Women, Massillon Community School of Nursing Faculty Group, and Beechwood Pioneers. Survivors include nieces, Marie Shanks and Irene (Richard) Stackhouse of Alliance; nephews Thomas Scott of Cuyahoga Falls, and Forest (Connie) Carter of Jeromesville, and twin nephews, David (Lovey) Carter of NC and Dwain Carter of Montana; sister-in-law Dorothy Scott of Sebring, and brother-in-law, Rev. Forest Carter of Lakeside; step-son Daniel Lawther; step-daughter Ann Marquart; several step-grandchildren; many great nieces and great nephews; and great-great-nieces and great-great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Dean Lawther, whom she married Nov. 16, 1996, and who died Oct. 2006; brother, Vernon Scott; twin sister, Bernice Carter; and niece, Sarah Baylor. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Richard Wallace officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be at Beechwood Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, Alliance, Ohio.
