Bernard L. Brown, Jr.

November 11, 1956 — August 11, 2023

Bernard Luther Brown Jr. (Bernie) 66, of Alliance passed away at Cleveland Clinic Mercy hospital on Friday, August 11th, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.  His larger-than-life personality will be missed by all who knew him.

Bernie was born in Alliance, Ohio to Bernard and Dorthey (Zeigler) Brown on November 11th, 1956.

Bernie graduated from Alliance High School in 1974 and joined the United States Marine Corps.  Stationed in Austria, Germany, then Adak, Alaska, he served as a radio intelligence operator and radio telegraph operator that required him to obtain a top-secret security clearance. His military awards include The National Defense Service Medal, M16 Rifle Marksman Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal.  The motto “once a marine, always a marine” fit Bernie perfectly, as he was very proud of his service to his country. Upon his honorable discharge as a ranked Corporal, he took a job at Crane Plumbing for several years.

He decided to go back to school and graduated in 1988 from Mount Union College with a double major in Mathematics and Computer Science.  He went on to work as an IT Specialist, for the Gibson-Homans Company in Twinsburg until it was acquired by the Henry Company.  In his position, he travelled often to California, Texas, Pennsylvania and Toronto.  He loved traveling and working, which he did until 2014 when he had a life-altering stroke.

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years Lisa (Hampu) Brown; daughter AnaMarie (Mosi) Dulaney; and son Daniel Brown.  He is also survived by his two granddaughters, Maylee and Macy Dulaney; his mother Dorthey; sister Cindy (Dale) Dorsey; and brother Bill (Lori Spall) Brown, all of Alliance.  He was an Uncle to many nieces and nephews who he loved fiercely.

He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.

Bernie loved to golf, host parties and picnics, and plan unforgettable family vacations.  He was an avid sports fan and loved all Cleveland teams.  He was a food connoisseur that loved eating out and shopping with his favorite ladies.

He lived life by his favorite song and motto, ‘I did it my way’ (My Way – by Frank Sinatra).

The family would like to thank all the nurses and aides who helped care for Bernie over the last 9 years, at home, Altercare of Alliance, Green Meadows, and Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospice.  Donations can be made to the American Stroke Association in his memory.

Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday August 15th, 2023 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home.  Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
