Bernard J. "Bernie" Knepp, Sr., age 87, of Alliance, died at 11:11 p.m. Sunday, October 2, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center.
He was born April 15, 1924, in Akron, Ohio, to Glenn Eugene and Marion (Stuldrer) Knepp.
Bernie retired as a Supervisor from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company after more than 40 years of service.
He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Bernie was an avid horse rider and animal lover. He will be missed by his beloved horse, "Lucky", and his favorite dog, Pepper.
A. U. S. Army WW II Veteran, Bernie was the recipient of a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three bronze service stars, Good Conduct Medal, and was held as a P.O.W. in France for 90 days.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth A. (Hilles) Knepp of Alliance, whom he married March 14, 1992; three sons, Larry B. Knepp and Thomas E. Knepp, both of Alliance, Bernard J. "Bernie" (Janet) Knepp of Beloit; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and sister, Tish Gillespie of Akron.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Mildred; sister, Marilyn Haren; and a grandson, Larry Joseph.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 7, 2011 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Ken Baker officiating. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
