Bernard R. Schopfer, age 87, of Homeworth, Ohio, died at 9:40 p.m. Sunday, December 26, 2010 at Aultman Hospital.
He was born June 24, 1923, in North Georgetown, Ohio, to William and Lucinda (Bartley) Schopfer.
Bernard was a graduate of the former Goshen High School. He was employed by Alliance Machine Company for more than 35 years until his retirement as a traffic manager.
He was a member of the Middle Sandy Evangelical Presbyterian Church and a member of the former American Legion, George D. Worth Post in North Georgetown.
He enjoyed golfing, spending time with his grandchildren, and watching Ohio sports teams.
Bernard was a United States Army Veteran having served during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Opal I. (Walker) Schopfer, of Homeworth, whom he married May 11, 1943; son Joseph (Susan) Schopfer of Homeworth; five grandchildren, Zachary, Alec, Karli, Jaron and Andrea; one great granddaughter, Jaylynn; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jeffrey; two brothers, and three sisters.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 30, 2010, at Middle Sandy Evangelical Presbyterian Church with Pastor Tom Sawyer officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
