Bettie M. Norton age 85 of Alliance died at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday August 19, 2003 at Alliance Community Hospital.
She was born May 8, 1918 in Pennsylvania to Arthur and Maude V. (Davidson) Mallory Sr., and lived in the Alliance area since 1920.
Mrs. Norton was a representative for the Welcome Wagon for 34 years, and served in the Army WAC's from 1942-1947. She was a member of American Legion Post 166 of Alliance, YWCA, Alliance Community Concert Association, former governor of Quota Club, member of Mt. Union College Woman's Club, and past president.
She was also a member of the Sigma Beta Phi International Sorority, Alliance Woman's Club, and Carnation City Players Association. She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Bettie received the Alliance Woman of the Year Award.
She is survived by one brother Arthur E. Mallory Jr. of Knoxville, TN, one niece Lynn Skovran of Knoxville, TN, one nephew David Mallory of Louisville, KY, seven great nieces and nephews, eight great great nieces and nephews, many nieces and nephews in MI from her husband's side, several cousins, and dear friends Robert, Kathy, Lindsay, and Laura Lavery.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Jean Mallory, and Hazel Bica, and her husband William E. Norton, whom she married September 30, 1944, and who was killed in a truck/train accident on June 11, 1951, while serving in Korea as a U.S. Army Lt.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Frank Gross Jr. officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, and one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
