Betty Jane Bieri, age 80 of Alliance, passed away at home with her family at 11:50 a.m. Sept. 9, 2004, after a three month illness.
She was born February 5, 1924 in Alliance, Ohio to Seymour Houston "Jack" Shreves and Ruth (Oswalt) Shreves. Betty lived in Alliance her entire life, and graduated from Alliance High School.
She was a homemaker, loving wife and mother, and according to Ed Bieri "her love was for her family, friends, flowers and pets."
Mrs. Bieri was a member of First Immanuel United Church of Christ.
She was also a member of North Coast Waves Unit 21. She supported PBS Channels 45 & 49, the Y.W.C.A., Alliance Community Concerts, Canton Museum of Art, the Humane Society and the American Red Cross.
Betty served in the U.S. Navy as a Yeoman 3rd Class, in the Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service (WAVES) during WWII.
Survivors include her husband Edward Nile Bieri, whom she married March 17, 1945, one daughter Christine Bieri and her husband Eric Hovemeyer of Cincinnati, Ohio, one son James Bieri and his wife Carol, of Parma, Ohio, and one granddaughter Miranda Hovemeyer, of Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colorado.
She was preceded in death by one son, David Earle Bieri, who died in 2000.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Neil Mann officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
