Betty L. Bircher, age 93, of Damascus, passed away at 10:25 a.m., Monday, November 10, 2014, at her home.
She was born January 12, 1921, in Beloit, Ohio, to C.T. and Unity (Stanley) Shreve and was a lifelong area resident.
Betty was a 1938 graduate of Goshen High School and a 1942 graduate of the College of Wooster with a bachelor in English.
She taught grade school in Damascus and was office manager for the family owned livestock auctions.
A member of the Damascus Friends Church, Betty also was an honored member of the Damascus Garden Club of more than 50 years, Damascus Magazine Club, and a former member of Eastern Star and Friends Together. She loved children, animals, her dog, Pepper, gardening and taking care of her home.
Survivors include her children, Peggy (Joe) Dossi of Canton, Tim Bircher of Hudson and Marty (John) Leask of Deerfield; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glenn Bircher whom she married in 1942; son, Jack Bircher; sister, Ruth Phillips; and a brother, Glen Shreve.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, November 14, 2014, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor John Ryser officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, November 13, 2014, and the hour prior to the service Friday. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
