Betty L. Jones, age 95, of Sebring, passed away at 1:37 a.m. Saturday, February 28, 2015, at Salem Medical Center.
She was born March 16, 1919, in Clearfield, Pennsylvania, to Horace Kephart and Margaret Mary (Johnson) Lynn.
Mrs. Jones graduated from Salineville High School in 1937 and from Mount Union College with a bachelor of music in 1942, and was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Alumni and Beta Pse Beta. She taught music in Calcutta, Ohio, from 1942 to 1944, worked in the record room department for several years at Alliance Community Hospital and volunteered for national and local health agencies.
She was a 60 year member of the First United Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder. She had former memberships at the YWCA, Alliance Country Club, Mount Union Women's Club, and Alliance Woman's Club, and was a Girl Scout leader.
Survivors include her daughters, Lynn Jones (Paul) Meyers of Kissimmee, Florida and Janice Jones (David) Hawkins of Sebring; grandchildren, Aaron, Nathan and Rachel Hawkins of Sebring; great-grandchild, Max Hawkins; and brothers-in-law, Austin C. Lynn of Phoenix, Arizona and Richard (Ruth) Jones of Sebring.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert W. Jones, her former classmate whom she married March 11, 1945 and who died September 20, 2011; an infant son who died in 1947; brother, Horace Lynn Jr. and his wife, Ann and a sister-in-law, Joan Lynn, late wife of Austin C. Lynn.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. James K. McCurdy of First United Presbyterian Church officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
