Betty L. Kimes, age 88, of Alliance, died Friday morning, April 9, 2010 at Crandall Medical Center.
She was born November 9, 1921, in Canton, Ohio to Lloyd and Sadie (Oyer) Deckard.
Betty was a graduate of Canton South High School and a graduate of cosmetology school and was employed by the former John Liber Meats. She was formerly co-owner and secretary of the Ashland Oil Bulk Plant in Minerva, and co-owner of Dairy Kool in Alliance.
She was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church where she was a former secretary and Sunday school superintendent for many years. She enjoyed going bowling, and playing golf, bingo and cards.
Betty was a very community minded person. She was a member and Past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star in Homeworth, Washington Township Farm Woman's Club, Fairmount Grange, and was a Youth Leader, Red Cross Volunteer, 19 year Volunteer at Alliance Community Hospital and served on the Alliance Community Hospital Auxiliary Board.
Survivors include her three daughters, Rowena Ferguson of North Canton, Bonnie (James) Grimes of Alliance and Cindy (John) Battershell of Marlboro; two sons, Ronald (Carol) Kimes of Chagrin Falls and Steve (Jane) Kimes of Alliance; 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one sister, Mary Ellen O'Brian of Fairfax, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert D. Kimes whom she married February 14, 1940 and who died in 1989; and a brother, Melvin Deckard.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 12, 2010 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Sue DeHoff officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the service on Monday. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
