Betty J. "BJ" Strong

Betty Jane "BJ" Strong, age 91, of Alliance, passed away at 7:45 p.m., Thursday, May 19, 2016, at her home.
She was born September 13, 1924, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Arthur and Ernestine (Smith) Mapes.
Betty was a graduate of Elmira High School in Elmira, New York.
During WWII, she was employed in Elmira at the Norden Bombsight. Upon moving to Alliance, she worked at Babcock and Wilcox Tube and B&W Research Center as a secretary, where she met her husband. After the death of her husband, she worked at Polinori's and the Elks as a waitress.
She attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was an avid reader, loved cross-stitching, decorative painting, and spending time with her family.
Betty is survived by her two daughters, Sandi Fiegenschuh and Kim (Mike) Moretti, both of Alliance; step-son, Jerry (Patti) Smith of Alliance; grandchildren, Erik Davies of Canton and Taylor Moretti of Alliance; numerous extended family; and her beloved dog, Joey.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond W. Strong whom she married July 28, 1951 and who died June 16, 1970; sisters, Jean Kelly, Roberta Schneider, and Sheron Russell; a brother, Robert "Butch" Mapes; and son-in-law, Dr. Bill Fiegenschuh.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, May 28th at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Timothy Muse officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
