Betty Louise (Shaw) Welch, age 81, of Alliance, died at 4:40 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at Community Care Center.
She was born October 8, 1929, in Lumber Port, West Virginia, to Sylvester and Gorda (Edgell) Shaw and has resided in Alliance for more than 56 years.
Betty was a member of the Holy Lamb of God Church. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, housekeeping, crocheting, making potholders, working crossword puzzles and word searches.
Betty loved life, and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; and most of all, she loved the Lord.
Survivors include her husband, Lester Welch, whom she married February 11, 1972; children, Denver R. Thornton of Alliance, Teena White of Panama City, Fla., Thomas S. Thornton, David C. Welch, and Beth Ann Stevenson, all of Alliance; 13 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; and large extended family.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; son, Bobby Jo Criss; siblings, Dorothy Roden, Leonard Shaw, Audi Shaw, Donald Shaw; and an infant brother, Harold.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 3, 2011 at Holy Lamb of God Church with Rev. Bob Workman officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
