Bruce A. Thompson

Bruce A. Thompson, age 68, of Ellsworth, died at 9:41 p.m. Aug. 18, 2006 at his home on Diehl Lake.
He was born April 24, 1938 in Alliance, Ohio to George Otho and Gwendolyn Emily (Copeland) Thompson. Bruce spent his adult life in the west (Wyoming, Montana, Colorado and Texas) and then retired back to Ohio. Mr. Thompson earned his Master's Degree in Geology from Kent State University and Miami of Ohio and was an Exploration Geologist in the oil and gas industry. Mr. Thompson was the founder of Skull Creek Oil. He was a Masonic Member and was a Ham radio operator for 52 years. Bruce was a civil war historian who researched ancestors that fought in the war. He was awarded Exploration Geologist of the year in 1994. Survivors include his wife Geraldine Ann (Manley) Thompson whom he married June 15, 1963; daughter Heather Ann Beck of Manchester, England; sons Bruce Allan (Carrie) Thompson II of Sedalia, CO, Jay Munly of Denver, CO and Winston Edward Thompson of Ellsworth; granddaughter Hanna Thompson of Sedalia, CO; brother George (Cathy) Thompson of Lake Wales, FL. and sister Penny Hamlin of El Paso, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Beverly Ellen Thompson. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Chiles and Sons Funeral Home in Bluffton, Ohio. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service in Bluffton. Interment will be at Thompson Cemetery.
