Bruce R. Graybill, age 83, of Alliance, died at 7:15 p.m. Monday, December 24, 2007 at Crandall Medical Center.
He was born in Alliance, March 9, 1924, to Henry Harold and Lena Gehret Graybill.
Mr. Graybill was a graduate of Alliance High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Kent State University in Bio-Chemistry in 1951. He was employed by the U.S. Post Office, the City of Alliance as a chemist in the water department and later became superintendent of the water and waste water treatment plants and retired as the city service director in Minerva in 1984.
He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corp as a Staff Sergeant of the 115th Medical Battalion in the Philippine Campaign and received 2 Bronze Stars and 1 Bronze Arrowhead.
Mr. Graybill was a member of the Union Avenue United Methodist Church and was a member of American Legion Post 166 of Alliance, 40 & 8, VFW Post 1036, D.A.V. Chapter 50, Conrad Masonic Lodge #271 F & AM, Alliance Council #112, Alliance Commandry #67, Alliance Chapter #83, Scottish Rite, Valley of Canton, and Alliance Kiwanis Club. In addition to his club and organizations, he enjoyed woodworking and vegetable gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Martha E. (Fitzgerald) Graybill of Sebring, whom he married June 19, 1955; son, Tim (Kim) Graybill of Charlotte, NC; 3 grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Nicholas and Robert James "RJ" Graybill; sister, Bette Clarke Dillow of Grand Island Fla.; and 2 nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and 1 son, Daniel R. Graybill.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Rebecca Inherst of Union Avenue United Methodist Church officiating. Friends may call 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
