Burl Middleton, age 84, of Alliance, died at 12:40 p.m. Friday, January 11, 2013 at Alliance Community Hospital, following an extended illness.
He was born March 7, 1928, in Olive Hill, Kentucky to Joe Walter and Frances (Stephens) Middleton.
A resident of the Alliance area for 65 years, Burl was the Pastor of the Alliance Independent Baptist Church. He had retired from Whitacre Greer in February, 1993, after working in maintenance.
Survivors include two sons, Ronnie (Gina) Middleton of Minerva, and Randy (Lori) Middleton, of Alliance, one daughter, Kathy Arlene (Jeff) McMullen of Alliance; grandson, Mark Middleton, who lived with him; one brother, Ernest Middleton of Olive Hill, Kentucky, two sisters, Bonnie Thomas and Hazel Lilly, both of Alliance; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
Burl was an avid Indians, Browns and Cavs fan. He also was a former Hot Stove Baseball Coach.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Magdelene (Holbrook) Middleton, one infant son, John, and two daughters, Loretta Joan Hernandez and Charlotte Joyce (Middleton) Retterer, and one grandson, Scott Conley; six sisters, Madge Clark, Maggie Holbrook, Opal Holbrook, Vada Holbrook, Mable Leishman and Dixie Woodburn.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Independent Baptist Church, 330 W. Cambridge St., with Elders Jim Owens, Jay Hale, and Brother Keith Kiser officiating. Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home.
Interment will be at Alliance City Cemetery.
