Calvin W. Hartzell, age 92, of Alliance, died at 5:59 a.m., Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Alliance Community Hospital.
He was born November 2, 1920, in Alliance, to the late Robert and Ada (Chenot) Hartzell.
Calvin attended Louisville High School and completed night courses in machine shop and welding.
He was a United States Navy veteran having serving in World War II. After the war, he was employed by the Timken Company for 38 years, retiring in 1978. Calvin married his lifetime love, Ruth (Grant) Hartzell in January of 1943. He also owned and operated Hartzell's Garage for more than 50 years.
Calvin and his wife were long-time members of First Christian Church in Canton. He was a member of the Masonic Order and the Scottish Rite for more than 50 years.
He is survived by a daughter, Diane (Roger) Green; daughter-in-law, Erma Hartzell; six grandsons; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Calvin is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth E. (Grant) Hartzell, who died in 2012; son, Delbert in 1982; three brothers, Alfred, Earl and Robert Hartzell Jr.; and three sisters, Doris Yoke, Gladys Foltz and Nellie Lord.
A private service will be held for family members with interment at Sunset Hills Burial Park in Canton.
