Candit Vulcu, age 87, of Alliance passed away on May 13, 2021.
He was born on September 6, 1933 in Scoreiu, Romania.
Candit was in the Romanian Army and worked as a coal miner. He then met and married his wife Gheorghina Vulcu. They came to America August 29, 1969 with their four children. Candit loved the great outdoors. He was actively involved in the City of Alliance Community Service projects and received the “Tree Hugger of the Year” award. He retired from American Steel Foundries where he worked for 27 years. Candit was an active member of the St. Nicholas Romanian Orthodox Church as well as the U.R. Transilvaneana Society.
In 1988 he lost his youngest son, Peter Vulcu in the Pan Am Lockerbie Flight 103 disaster.
He is survived by his wife Gheorghina Vulcu, of Alliance; daughter, Angela (Aurel) Bosca of Alliance; sons, George Halmaghi of Houston, TX and John Vulcu of Spring, TX; three grandchildren, Mary Jean (Harold) Leech, Steven Bosca, and Gabrielle Vulcu all of Alliance; and three great-grandchildren, Brendon Leech, Olivia Bosca and Evelyn Bosca. A Saracusta Service will take place on Monday, May 17th at 6:30 p.m. with a visitation to follow from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 18th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Romanian Orthodox Church. Interment will be at Alliance City Cemetery.
