On Sunday evening at about 10:15 p.m., Carl Robert Adams, 84, was welcomed into the arms of our merciful Father God who is glad for every opportunity to show His unfailing love to His children.
Born in March 1931, Carl and the town of Alliance were intertwined most of his life. He grew up on a farm south of town, graduated from Alliance High School, and raised a family here.
During his 40 year career with the McConnell Agency and Adams Insurance Agency, he never knew a stranger. It was fun for his children and grandchildren to watch, as nearly everywhere they went, spontaneous conversations would erupt with sales clerks, waiters, and random people who crossed Carl's path. Throughout the Canton to Salem area, whether in a place of business or at a ball game, there seemed always to be at least one person who recognized Carl and stopped to say hello.
Carl played the role of Santa at the Alliance City Hospital for 30 years, bringing laughter to those who were suffering. He also served as a board member of the hospital, and a plaque in his honor is displayed there. He was an active member of the Lion's Club, even serving as President for some time. His volunteer work also included ushering at the Carnation City Players Theater, and the Alliance Garden Club.
His favorite stories often revolved around ornery pranks of his youth and beyond. His dogs were like children to him except more spoiled. If he was not at work one would most likely find him in his gardens or watching Browns football.
Carl was also a graduate of Cleveland Bible College, later known as Malone University where he served on the alumni board.
Son of the late John and Lois (Tennis) Adams of Alliance, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Irene Hof and Marlene Miles, and his first wife, Esther Adams.
He is survived by his wife, Letti Adams; sister, Carolyn (Joe) Collins-Soehnlen; son, Stephen (Debbie) Adams; and daughter, Nancy (Jerry) Virden. Carl has four grandchildren, Jonathan Virden, Rachael Tausch, Timothy Virden and Daniel Adams; and one great-grandchild.
For six years he was cared for lovingly and thoughtfully by staff and volunteers at the Community Care Center in Alliance.
His life continues in eternity with Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. Carl will be missed here.
