It is with sorrow that we send home Carl B. Sten of Sebring Ohio.
Carl was born October 4, 1934 in Leavittsburg, OH. He was raised there and graduated from Braceville High School in 1943. After graduation, he joined the Coast Guard, where he served with distinction, stationed from Long Island, NY to Sitka, AL. He returned to Warren after an honorable discharge and went to work at Federal Machine and Welder.
Carl attended Youngstown State University, and graduated with a Bachelors of Engineering in June of 1967. On August 25, 1962, he married his wife of 53 years, Janet A, Sten. Together they raised two daughters, Sharon born November of 1963 and Carol-Ann, July 1965. After graduation from Youngstown State University he began his engineering career with ALCOA.
During his 31-year tenure he traveled across the globe, living in Wales and Australia, retiring after 31 years of service in the Knoxville, TN area. Carl enjoyed a lively retirement, skiing in resorts across the world, hiking the Smokies and building and flying large scale radio controlled airplanes.
He was actively involved in the Lady of Our Fatima Catholic Church, Alcoa, TN, including membership in the Knights of Columbus. He served as president of the Alcoa Chapter of the Kiwanis Club and continued to be active in the ALCOA retirement community.
In 2014, he and Janet chose to return to Northeast Ohio, where they could be close to family.
