Carol Lintern Bieri, 54, of Parma, died Sunday, January 9, 2005
after a long illness. She was born April 4, 1950 in Detroit, Michigan to Ruth (Meyer) and Lawrence Lintern. She graduated from Wooster High
School, Wooster, Ohio, in 1968. She graduated with a degree in physical
therapy from Ohio State University in 1972 and received her Master of
Science in Health Sciences Education from Case Western Reserve in 1980.
She worked as a physical therapist, researcher, educator and
rehab manager for 33 years and was a member of the American Physical
Therapy Association. She developed rehabilitation programs and mentored
hundreds of therapists at Euclid General Hospital, Huron Road Hospital,
Lakewood Hospital and University Hospitals of Cleveland.
For the past 10 years, she was Clinical Coordinator of a major
rehabilitation research program at the Cleveland functional electrical
stimulation (FES) Center to improve mobility of individuals paralyzed by spinal cord injuries or stroke. She led interdisciplinary teams from Case, MetroHealth and the Cleveland VA Medical Center responsible for designing innovative rehabilitation techniques in electrotherapy. She organized and conducted multicenter clinical trials of new rehabilitation devices and methods, collaborated with surgeons and rehab professionals in New York, Kentucky, Michigan, Texas and Arizona, and authored numerous papers in professional and scientific journals related to her research.
She was the beloved wife of James Bieri whom she married on
August 8, 1990. He survives her. She is also survived by her mother, Ruth Lintern, of Wooster, Ohio, Brother Paul (Peggy) Lintern of Mansfield, sister, Linda (Fred) Hasecke of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Father-in-Law Ed Bieri of Alliance, and Sister-in-Law Christine (Eric) Hovemeyer of Cincinnati. Nieces and nephews survive as well- Miranda Hovemeyer, Steve and Mark Lintern, Kate Hasecke and Edward (Cathy) Hasecke, also great niece and nephew Emily and Ben Hasecke. She was preceeded in death by her father, Lawrence, Mother-in- Law, Betty Bieri, and nephew Adam Hasecke.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 12 at A. Ripepi & Sons Funeral Home, 18149 Bagley Road, Middleburg Heights, OH 44130 (West of I-71). Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday January 11, 2005.
Interment will be Thursday, January 13 at Fairmount Memorial Park, Alliance, Ohio.
