Carol Genetin, age 85, formerly of Alliance, passed away at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at her daughter’s home in Orwell, Ohio.
She was born January 25, 1934, in Alliance, Ohio, to Karl and Dorothy (Greenamyer) Swanson.
Carol graduated from Alliance High School in 1952. After first considering attending university to major in English literature, she chose to spend the first part of her adult life working as a homemaker and as a bookkeeper at the service stations she owned with her husband, Genetin Gulf and Genetin & Walizer Shell in Alliance.
Starting in the early-1980s and continuing on for almost 30 years, Carol helped raise her grandchildren, spending almost every morning and afternoon with them. Those who knew her best remember her as a gifted storyteller, a caretaker through and through, and a truly generous soul.
She is survived by her daughters, Judee Genetin of Henderson, Nevada, and Lori Jo Montgomery, of Orwell, Ohio, and son, Jayme Genetin of Titus, Alabama; eleven grandchildren, Joseph Genetin-Pilawa, Victoria Genetin, Elle and Jon-Michael Durkin, Terra, Corey, Adam, Bryan, Brody, Sadie-Mae and Hannah-Lu Montgomery; and 16 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Genetin, whom she married November 29, 1952 and who died August 31, 2004.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Susan Robinson officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 70 W. Streetsboro St. Suite 201, Hudson OH 44236.
