Carol Scott Gwin of Alliance died Tuesday January 4th. She was born in Alliance, Ohio on August 8, 1925 to the late Walter W. and Celia F. Scott. She was a 1943 graduate of Alliance High School and attended Denison University and graduated from Mount Union College in 1947. Preceded in death by her husband The Honorable John F. Gwin in 1986.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter; The Honorable W. Scott Gwin (Monica) of Canton, Ohio, The Honorable James S. Gwin (Bonnie) of Shaker Heights, Ohio and Mary Jo Wiese (Ted) of Baltimore, Maryland. Also survived by six grandchildren; Molly and Zachary Gwin, John and Michael Gwin and Robert and Edward Wiese. She is also survived by her sister Mary Kibler (Dr. Daniel) of Alliance and sister-in-laws Nell Falcone (Joseph) of North Canton and Nan Gwin of Alliance.
Carol was active in many community organizations. She volunteered for Alliance Community Hospital and served on the boards of the Domestic Violence Shelter and the YWCA of Alliance.
She was a member of Regina Coeli Catholic Church, Coterie, Alliance Woman's Club, Hill and Dale Gardeners, the Alliance Country Club, and Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She was an accomplished gardener, knitter and seamstress.
Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday January 8th at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Alliance. Friends may call at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home in Alliance, Friday, January 7th from 6-9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Carol's name to the Alzheimer's Association, 4815 Munson St. NW, Canton, Ohio 44718, or the YWCA of Alliance, 239 E. Market St. Alliance, Ohio 44601.
The family would like to acknowledge caregiver Diana Martin of Alliance and the nursing staff at Aultman Hospital, Aultman Hospice and the Canton Regency for their care and compassion.
