With great regret at leaving her family and friends, but with great joy at returning to God, Carol Joan Kuhaneck, "Momma Ku", while in the love and comfort of her son, (Vincent Kuhaneck) and fiancée's (Joan Streitferdt) home, departed this life at 10:55 a.m., Wednesday, March 30, 2016.
Born February 29, 1924, in Alliance, Ohio, to Fredrick and Harriet (Whitla) Throne. Carol lived most of her life in Alliance.
A graduate of Alliance High School, Carol attended Ohio State University and received her Bachelor of Arts, Summa cum laude. She continued her education where she received her Master in English from Mt. Union, and continued course work towards her Doctorate from Kent State University.
Carol or Momma Ku taught English her whole career at Alliance High School. She ran the Creative Writing Club for many years as well as the Debate Team. She loved teaching so much that after she retired she continued to teach as a substitute.
While teaching, Carol belonged to the Alliance, State and National Education Associations; and to the Alliance, State and National Retired Teacher Association's thereafter. She was also affiliated with the Community Concert Association, Mount Union College Women's Club and the American Association of University Women serving the later two in many capacities. She donated blood to the Red Cross until she was 78 and delivered Meals on Wheels until then age of 82. In recent years, she was active in Union Avenue United Methodist Church, especially in United Methodist Women and the Lunch Bunch. She was a very kind and giving woman. During all of her volunteering and helping of others, she still found time to watch and go to her beloved Ohio sports teams. Indians and Cavs were her favorite
Carol was the mother of Brother Lawrence Kuhaneck, John (Sara Todd) Kuhaneck, Harriet Kuhaneck, and Vincent (Joan Streitferdt) Kuhaneck. She had 12 Grandchildren: Cholley, Sarah, Brianna, Joshua, Sabrina, Tammy, Rick, Ray, Christopher, Victoria, Shane and Kyle; and several great grand children.
Carol was proceeded in death by her parents; husband, Vincent Kuhaneck; Her many children; Fredrick Kuhaneck; Dr. David Kuhaneck; Patricia Kuhaneck; Richard Kuhaneck; and Virginia (Kuhaneck) Morrison; and a sister Helen Smith.
A Memorial Service will be held at Union Avenue Methodist Church on Saturday April 9th, 2016 at 2pm with a luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers, Carol has requested to make a donation in her name and memory to Hospice of Alliance or Union Avenue United Methodist Church.
