Carol E. Umberger died May 1, 2021 at the age of 82 after several years of declining health.
She was born December 23, 1938 in Akron, Ohio to William and Alice (Holcomb) Collins, and was orphaned as a teenager. Carol graduated from Marlboro High School, class of 1956, where she was a varsity cheerleader.
Carol was employed as a secretary in the outdoor advertising field retiring after 26 years from the Patrick Media Group in Canton. Following retirement, Carol and Bill spent 25 years each winter in their home in Cape Coral, Florida, where they enjoyed golfing, socializing with fellow “snow birders”, hosting winter visitors and family from home, boating and cruising and shelling at the beaches.
Carol enjoyed cooking, sewing, was an avid reader, and with Bill was active in couple’s golf leagues in both Florida and Ohio, locally at Pleasant View Golf Course. She was also active in charitable work with the Whiskey Creek Ladies Group as well as a board member for a number of years with the Viking Condominium Association in Florida.
She will be loved and missed by her family, including her husband of 60 years, Bill Umberger, two daughters, Valerie (Carl) Schultz and children, Carl, Caitlin, John and David; and Kimberly (Ralph) Hill and children, Chase Brice, Adam, Mason, and Callie.
Carol’s family would like to thank the staff of the memory unit at Stone Creek Assisted Living for their compassionate care; also the hospice care from Traditions Health was especially appreciated.
Memorial Contributions in Carol’s name may be made to the Marlington Alumni Association, 10320 Moulin Ave., Alliance, Ohio 44601.
A private memorial service will be held, with interment at Marlboro Cemetery.
