Carolyn D. Couchie passed away peacefully December 9, 2013, after a long stay at Elmcroft Senior Living. She was 87 years old.
Carolyn was born in Alliance, Ohio, the daughter of Fern and Arthur Dimit, the owner of Dimit Brothers Photography. She attended Alliance High School and worked as a colorist for Dimit Brothers. She graduated from Mt. Union College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1948.
In 1949, she married Jay L. Hanna. Together they raised three sons while living in New Jersey and Pepper Pike, Ohio. Following Jay's death in 1981, Carolyn married Wilbur Couchie in 1988 and returned to live in Alliance.
Carolyn had a deep love for, and commitment to her family, church and community. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and the Margery Mayer Circle, Alpha XI Delta Sorority, Alliance Community Concert Board, Alliance Women's Club and Tennysonian Club. She was past president of Chapter CP of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and past president of The National Cabinet of Mount Union Women. She received the Mount Union Alumni Service award. There were always flowers around her. She was a life-long member of her community garden clubs.
Carolyn's parents and husbands preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, Jeff, David (Kathleen), and Brad (Kim) Hanna, step-daughter Jean (Jack) Burnquist, six grandchildren, Sean, Jaclyn, Timothy, Whitney (Adam) Balmert, Brett (Misty) and Scott Hanna, and great-grandchildren Kira Hanna and Tucker Balmert. They loved her dearly. Her boys want her to know how proud they are that despite being out-numbered 3-to-1, she always won. They are saddened she never found Stingray City.
