Catherine Dawson

October 17, 1921 — January 14, 2011

Catherine Ryan Dawson, passed away at Alliance Community Hospital with family and her priest at her side, on January 14, 2011, after a long illness.
Mrs. Dawson, 89, was born and lived in Alliance, Ohio her entire life. She graduated from Alliance High School in 1939, and the Mercy School of Nursing in 1942.
She served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps from November 1943 until December 1945, as a First Lieutenant for the 28th Field Hospital in the European Theater - Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. She received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, the American Victory Ribbon and also the Commemorative Medal Overlord created to honor veterans of Operation Overlord June 6th, 1944. She was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was also a former member of the Alliance Women's Club and the Alliance Country Club.
Catherine "Katie" Dawson was preceded in death by her parents, William and Elsie (Ryan) Frank; her husband of 46 six years, Ronald C. Dawson, in 1995, and her sister, Mary Lou (Cooey) Edgecombe, on January 13, 2011.
She is survived by her children, Deborah A. Dawson, of Alliance, Ohio; Dennis R. (Ann) Dawson, of Geneseo, NY; and Molly (Bill) Kramer, of North Royalton, Ohio. She was the beloved grandmother of Jennifer, Erin, Courtney, Betsy, Jessica and Kyle; great-grandmother of Cassandra, Chelsea, Katie, Jonathan, Ella, and Gavin, and special aunt to Kit (Cooey) Bradshaw and her family in Florida.
Mrs. Dawson and Mrs. Edgecombe will have simultaneous visitations from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, 75 S. Union Ave. Alliance. A Mass of Celebration for both Mrs. Dawson and Mrs. Edgecombe will take place on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Donald L. Feicht officiating.
Interment for Mrs. Dawson will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.
