Catherine B. Mitchell

Catherine B. “Katie” Mitchell, age 91, of Alliance, died Thursday, November 24, 2022 while vacationing in Wilmington, North Carolina.

She was born February 24, 1931 in Allegheny, Pennsylvania to Guy W. Barger and Bernice (Gilliland) Barger.

A 1948 graduate of Sewickley High School in Pennsylvania, Katie graduated from Indiana State Teacher’s College in Indiana, PA.

After their marriage, Katie and her late husband Mitch moved to Alliance in 1957, and made it their lifelong home.

She worked as Office Manager with her husband, Lawrence N. Mitchell, DPM, and was a prior director of First United Presbyterian Nursey School for fifteen years.

A member since 1957 of First United Presbyterian Church, Katie served as an Elder and Deacon.

She enjoyed woodworking, gardening, line-dancing and spending time with her family and friends.

She will be loved and missed by her family, including her son, Larry (Jennie) Mitchell of Salem; two daughters, Sandy M. SierraValle and Cathy A. Mitchell both of Alliance; three granddaughters, Mandy (Tim), Abby and Cassie; one great-granddaughter, Tori (Eric); two great-great-granddaughters, Sophia and Demi; and many nieces and nephews.

Katie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lawrence N. “Mitch” Mitchell, whom she married February 27, 1954, and who died November 15, 2010; two brothers, Edward L. Barger and William G. Barger, one sister, Betty B. DePalma, and one nephew, Ed Barger.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at First United Presbyterian Church, 265 W. Beech St. Alliance, OH 44601 with Rev. Lynn Shetzer officiating.

Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
