Charles F. Baylor, age 84 of Alliance, passed away at his home Friday April 30, 2010 due to cancer.
He will long be remembered for his devotion to family, friends and serving his community. He was born April 30, 1926 and graduated from Atwater High School in Atwater, Ohio in 1944. The following year, he married Jeane Archer of Randolph, Ohio on June 11, 1948 and they began their lives together with little more than a lot of hope.
After two years of college at Kent State University, he began a career in banking with First National Bank and later became the President of Industrial Federal Savings and Loan Association, both banks of Alliance, Ohio. He went on to enjoy a highly respected and successful career in banking; working on behalf of employees, stockholders and the communities that the bank served. He retired as Chairman and CEO of First American Savings Bank (now known as Charter One) in 1989.
Baylor served on the Board of Trustees for Copeland Oaks in Sebring, Ohio, and on the Board of The University of Mount Union, Alliance, as well as a host of other civic organizations. He enjoyed many Canadian fishing trips with family and friends; learning to fly, sailing, playing golf and being in Florida with friends in the winter months.
He is survived by his wife, B. Jeane Baylor; his children Victoria S. Baylor (Terry) Weida of Alliance, Richard C. (Maura) Baylor of Upper Arlington, Ohio; his sister, Wilma Franks of Atwater, Ohio; his step-brothers, George Eberly of Alabama, Richard Eberly and James Eberly, both of Alliance; grandchildren, Robert (Cindy) Koch of Alliance, Katherine (Joseph) Bauer of Hilliard, Ohio, Jennifer Baylor (Eric) Biddle of Hilliard, Katie Baylor of Alexandria, Virginia, Anna Baylor of Hilliard, and Charles R.
