Charles L. Bunch, age 90, of Alliance, passed away at 5:52 p.m., Sunday, November 20, 2016, at Oakhill Manor in Louisville.
Charles was born in Jackson, County, Alabama, January 15, 1926, to Luther H. and Annie (Turner) Bunch.
He proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Army where he served in the Philippines in 1945 as a parts/depot clerk and crane operator. He was the recipient of the Philippine Liberation Rib with the Bronze Star and World War II Victory Medal. He was also in the Army Reserves from 1946 to 1950.
Charles worked at Babcock and Wilcox from January 1953 until he retired in 1983. He was the first B&W employee to enroll in the apprenticeship program as an apprentice pipe fitter in 1973. He had a strong work ethic and instilled that trait in his children. His most successful job was that of a loving husband and father.
He loved wintering and fishing in Florida with his loving wife for 21 years, wood working with his sons and spending time with his family. He and his wife caught the fish for the family annual fish fry each summer for 30 years.
Charles is survived by children Sheila (Ron) Stanish, Carol S. (Glenn) Remick, Cathy J. (Ronald R.) Brogan, William K. (Carla J.) Bunch, and Bruce A. (Dawn Marie) Bunch; grandchildren, Antonio Sanor, Angela Newsom, Stephanie Hagerty, Stacey Bishman, Jeremy Brogan, Heather Haydu, Christopher Bunch, Amy Pierson, Shaun Bunch, Kimberly Sloan and Ashley Bunch; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister, Edna Burton of Tuscumbia, Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Edith, who died October 11, 2007; son, Charles Jr.; daughter, Alice Maley; one brother; and three sisters.
Private services will be held with Hospice Chaplin Charlie Cooper officiating. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
The family would like to recognize the staff of Oakhill Manor in Louisville and Great Lakes Hospice for the tender loving care they have shown our father.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Burn Center 3229 Burnett Ave., Cincinnati Ohio 45229-3095, Great Lakes Caring Hospice 1530 W. Market St. Akron, OH 44313 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
