Charles C. Chapman

June 1, 1920 — July 22, 2016

Charles Clifton Chapman age 96, of Avon Ohio and formerly of Alliance Ohio, died at his home in Avon at 5:40 p.m. July 22, 2016 and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
He was born June 1, 1920 in Alliance Ohio to Merle and Gladys (Kannal) Chapman and lived 80 years in Alliance before moving to Avon Lake and then to Avon Ohio.
Chuck was a 1939 graduate of Alliance High School and went on to become a certified electrician where he spent most of his career.
Prior to becoming an electrician, Chuck worked with Babcock and Wilcox in Alliance. He was a member of First Christian Church in Alliance his entire life. Upon moving to Avon Lake, he attended Bay Presbyterian Church in Bay Village Ohio where he had been active in the general contractors group. Chuck was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 540.
Chuck was known to many as "Poppy". His love in life was being with his family and friends and was always referred to as a truly hard working, loving, kind and sweet man.
Survivors include his daughter Jill (Phil) Battershell of Bay Village, Ohio; two grandchildren, Bethany of Lakewood Ohio and Jeffrey (Jenny) of Peninsula Ohio; brother, Warren (Margaret) Chapman; sister, Marjorie Chapman Merryman; brother in law, Paul (Marcia) Thomas; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Kathleen (Thomas) Chapman; and brothers, Paul, Robert, Kenneth and Richard.
A private, family burial will be at Fairmont Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 27th at Bay Presbyterian Church in Bay Village, Ohio, at 1:00 p.m. in Auburn Hall with Pastor Dan Edgerly of Bay Presbyterian Church and Dr. Tom Madden retired pastor of Bay Presbyterian co-officiating.
