Charles Haymaker

Charles "Jim" Haymaker, age 85, of Canton, died at 4:25 p.m., Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at St. Joseph Care Center in Louisville.
He was born January 11, 1925, in Alliance, Ohio, to William S. and Opal (Thomas) Haymaker.
Jim was a graduate of Alliance High School and attended business college for one year. He was a WWII veteran of the U. S. Navy Seebees.
He retired in 1980 after 32 years of service with the U. S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. He was also employed at Walton-Schrader Funeral Home for 20 years.
Jim was a member of the New Franklin United Methodist Church, the American Legion Post 166 of Alliance, Mended Hearts and was a life member of DAV. He enjoyed working with stained glass.
Survivors include his wife, Janet, whom he married April 30, 1946; his daughters, Sharon Hefner and Donna (Art) Downs of Canton; grandchildren, Hillary, BJ, Adam, Michelle and Brad; great grandchildren, Brooke and Tristan; his brother, William M. "Bill" Haymaker of Port Charlotte, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Dale and Don Haymaker.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 2, 2010 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. William Wright officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to services on Saturday. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Mended Hearts Inc., New Franklin United Methodist Church, 16540 Lisbon St. SE, Minerva, Ohio 44657 and the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are by Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, 75 S. Union Ave. Alliance, Ohio 44601.
