Charles A. Marschinke, age 94, of Alliance, passed away Friday, June 14, 2013, at McCrea Manor. He was born December 27, 1919, in New Castle, Pa., to Edward and Lillian (Burgi) Marschinke.
Besides his parents, one brother, Eddie, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, M. Irene Marschinke of Alliance.
Charles is also survived by his sister, Joan (George) Sheen of Homeworth; two sons, David and Christine Marschinke, and Brian and Janice Marschinke of Alliance; daughter, Linda and Robert Brown of Bluemont, Va.; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Brett Marriner, Gary dePrill, Nicole Marschinke and Tyler Marschinke of Alliance and Miranda Brown of Williamsport, Md., Micaela Brown of Charles Town, W. Va., Marissa Brown of Bluemont, Va., and Joshua Brown of Bloomington, Ill.; and great-grandchildren, Jacob, Owen and Mason Marriner of Alliance.
Charles had lived in Alliance since 1933 and graduated from Alliance High School in 1938. He is a veteran of the U. S. Army Air Force, where he served for four years, 1941 to 1945. Charles served as a staff sergeant in the Asiatic Pacific theater as an aircraft instrument technician in the 865th squadron of the 494th bomb group. He was awarded the American theater ribbon, Asiatic/Pacific theater ribbon with six Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal of World War II.
He was employed by Babcock and Wilcox Research Center in Alliance and later worked as supervisor of the Barberton branch instrument lab. He retired in 1982 after 35 years of service.
Charles was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Alliance, where he was active in St. Paul's Club 55, taught Sunday school and served on the church's property committee for many years. He was also active in Washington Township Ruritans, Boy Scouts and the Alliance Area Senior Center. His hobbies included tinkering with motors of all kinds, fishing, reading, traveling and woodworking.
Per his request, Charles will be cremated, and a celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, in Alliance with the Rev. Timothy Muse officiating.
