Charles J. Mather, age 88, of Alliance, died at 2:33 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at his home.
He was born July 28, 1920 in Alliance, to Simon A. and Grace (Hunter) Mather. Mr. Mather was a graduate of Alliance High School. He was employed at Alliance Manufacturing (Machine Set Up) for 37 years and retired in 1990.
A United States Navy Petty Officer 1st class Veteran, he was discharged in 1945
He was a member of Bolton United Methodist Church. He was organizer and treasurer for 25 years of Alliance Manufacturing Employees Credit Union. He was also an Alliance Area Boy Scout Leader.
Survivors include his wife Helen (Alexander) Mather whom he married June 25, 1972; son, David L. (Jennifer) Mather of Oklahoma City, Ok: one daughter, Katherine (Bob) Sevier of Chiefland, Fl: two step-sons, Stephen E. (Pam) Cutright of Newton Falls, Glenn C. (Elecia) Cutright of Alliance; one step-daughter Janet L. Yost of Alliance; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren: six step-grandchildren; one step-great granddaughter; and a brother, Richard S. Mather of Canton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son C. James Mather; brother Albert E. Mather; sister Marjorie Greco and a two year old sister, Margaret.
Services will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, with Dr. David Bloor of Bolton United Methodist Church officiating. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Entombment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
