Charles L. Rieger

Charles L. Rieger, age 97, of Sebring, formerly of Alliance, passed away at 2 p.m., Thursday, February 1, 2018, at Crandall Medical Center.
He was born May 7, 1920, in Strasburg, Ohio, to Joseph and Mary (Haswell) Rieger and has resided in the Alliance area since 1972.
Charles was a graduate of Strasburg High School and received a Bachelor's Degree from Findlay College and his Master's Degree from Ohio State University.
He was a public school teacher and administration superintendent at Akron Springfield Schools and assistant superintendent at Alliance Schools.
Charles was a member of the Garfield Masonic Lodge No 528, F & AM in Shreve, Elks Lodge No 467 in Alliance, Alliance Senior Center, and past president of both the Uniontown Lions Club and the South East Summit Kiwanis Club.
A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Charles had served during World War II.
Survivors include his son, Kirk (Cindy) Rieger of North Carolina; daughter, Cheryl Rice of Cuyahoga Falls; five grandchildren, Eric, Todd, Adam and Lisa Rieger Carbone of North Carolina and Shannon Rice of Washington, DC; great-grandchildren, Grant, Grace and Jackson Rieger of North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Reva (Gemberling) Rieger; brothers, Bud, Jack and James Rieger; and sisters, Sis Kreis and Jane Johns.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, February 18, 2018, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
